To bring more colour and life into the living environment, it is possible to site tubs on pavements and other pedestrian areas. During these times of attacks and threats, local government departments are taking more and more measures to prevent this kind of violence. The use of heavy weight containers planted with bulbs and perennials, serves well to make these obstacles more pleasing on the eye, as well as beneficial to the environment, at the same time as protecting the public to a degree from such attacks.
Tubs with perennials or flowerbulbs
The relevant tubs should be filled with a good combination of bulbs and perennial plants. By planting the bulbs in different layers below ground, and the correct varieties of perennials above ground, an extremely long flowering period is achievable at a relatively small cost.
Maintenance of flowertubs
With the use of tubs and containers you must take into account that in severe weather conditions bulbs can freeze. While this is not an issue for the vast majority of bulbs in the UK climate, if you use more tender bulbs such as Tazzetta Narcissi, we advise you to put the tubs close together in the winter and cover them over with fleece of blankets in periods of extreme low temperatures. As soon as the shoots appear, you can return them to their flowering position. Please bear in mind that good drainage is crucial to the success of bulbs and plants in containers.
