The environment & sustainability

Sustainability is a broad concept. Basically, it means achieving the right balance between people, the environment and the economy to create a sustainable world and make sure we use the planet’s resources responsibly and don't exhaust them.

The team at Lubbe Lisse feels very strongly about sustainability and is committed to making society sustainable. We are doing our bit to create a healthy environment and promote ecological, economic and social growth in public spaces.

Human activities are increasingly disrupting all kinds of natural processes, causing things like deforestation, desertification and the greenhouse effect and affecting the basic things we take for granted, including clean air and water.

It’s vital for us to make sure our planet is inhabitable for future generations. With sustainability and biodiversity high up on our customers’ agendas, we advise them to use bee and insect-friendly mixtures. They contain types of bulb that will bloom and produce nectar and pollen at a time of year when bees need really need both.

Our Green Vision

From sustainable product development to an energy-neutral environment.

27% Lower CO2 emissions: By minimising transport movements when transporting our flower bulbs.

76% Cleaner air: By bicycle. 76% of our employees travel to work by bike or in electric cars.

100% electric: Most of our fleet of planting machines, tractors and cars and equipment are electric.

Lighting: Lubbe Lisse only uses LED lighting, which is far more sustainable.

Our mission

Sustainability is key in every part of our production chain.

We aim to achieve the right balance between people, planet and profit throughout the process, which starts at the “in-take” and ends after planting.

Certification

We are very committed to the environment and sustainability. You can see this from our certifications. They show that all our flower bulbs and seeds meet European legal standards for ecological products and production methods.

MPS-Florimark GTP

We were very proud to be awarded the MPS-Florimark GTP certification in 2021 (similar to ISO 9001). Besides product quality and traceability, we also consider social aspects and environmental requirements like employee training, hygiene and safety. Florimark GTP certification shows that Lubbe Lisse observes regulations about the environment (sustainable procurement and sustainability policies) and employees (courses and safety aspects).

SKAL NL-BIO-01

As a supplier of organic bulbs, we took our place among a group of companies certified to trade in organic products in the Netherlands in 2015. Our certification from Skal Biocontrole means that customers can rely on us to supply them with organic products. In the Netherlands, the EKO quality mark shows that a product is organic and has been sourced from a company that is committed to sustainability.

In other words, the product meets European legal standards for ecological products and production methods at the very least.

RHS

We are proud that we have been granted permission by the RHS, to use their "perfect for pollinators" logo. Many of our bulbs and perennials have always provided a valuable source of food for wildlife and now we are able to highlight the products you may like to use for this purpose.

'On the way to PLANETPROOF'

'On the way to Planetproof' is a Dutch quality mark that shows products have been grown sustainably. They minimally impact the environment and keep agricultural production in balance with our planet’s carrying capacity.
